KUSA – One of the most popular toys of the holiday season just sits there.

Elf on the Shelf is an elf that sits on a shelf, or, in this case, a wreath. Room Service Home sold 5,000 elves on a shelf.

"I named him Chris for Christmas," 10-year-old Emma Watson said.

Emma says when she wakes up in the morning, Chris has moved, after flying back to the North Pole to give a report to Santa.

"It's most exciting in the morning because you're like, 'Where's my elf? I can't find my elf!'" Emma said.

Emma says a book that comes with the elf spells out rules.

"If a child touches him, he'll lose all of his magic, and he'll never move or do anything again," she said.

Its about an elf that comes all the way from Santa's workshop in the North Pole, to keep an eye on both naughty and nice children.

The book comes with activities and of course, an elf you can name and then watch him work his magic.
